Course Synopsis

Structural Equation Model (SEM) with Stata

Stata is the teaching software of many renowned universities, including National University of Singapore, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Monash University, University of Johns Hopkins and Harvard University.

This workshop is designed for participants who have little knowledge of Generalized Structural Equation model (gSEM) but would like to consider this advanced model for data analysis. Real-life data sets are used for illustration.

SEM is an advanced statistical method that encompasses regression analysis and latent class analysis. It offers a more sophisticated framework for data analysis where multiple dependent variables could be analyzed within a single model, and the effects of observed and unobserved variables could be ascertained concurrently. In addition to the direct effects, the independent variables’ indirect effects on the dependent variables could also be estimated, thus giving a more complete picture about the interrelationships among the variables. It is not an overstatement that should SEM be applied in many previously published analyses, the results could turn out to be very different!
